Our People

With over 1,100 employees including over 300 clinical faculty delivering expert care across every subspecialty, more than 200 residents and fellows preparing to lead the future of anesthesiology, and a world-class team of researchers, administrators and support staff, the MGB Department of Anesthesiology is home to a diverse team of exceptional individuals in all facets of healthcare.

Our Training Programs

At MGB we are committed to educating the future leaders of our specialty. This includes two core residencies, namely the Anesthesiology Residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and the Anesthesiology Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), one combined residency with Boston Children’s Hospital, namely the Combined Pediatrics-Anesthesiology Residency, and eight unique clinical fellowships spanning both academic medical centers including:

  • Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Medicine

  • Thoracic Anesthesiology

  • Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia

  • Critical Care Anesthesia/Medicine

Our Clinical Volume

Each year the MGB Department of Anesthesiology performs more than 150,000 cases, including more than 67,000 ambulatory visits and procedures each year. Each of these are performed at one of the 140 anesthetizing locations, including over 40 operating rooms at BWH, over 55 operating rooms at MGH and numerous non-operating room anesthetizing locations.
